Admin This user is an Administrator.

Yep, I'm an admin here, as well as one of the main go-to people for wikicode issues (templates, DPL, etc.). I have a shoepuppet account, Dr Ishmael, that I sometimes use for testing stuff. I also have a bot account, Bot ishmael, used to perform Bot tasks and various maintenance duties as necessary.

[edit] About me

Male.png Tony, age 30

Location
Conway, Arkansas
Occupation(s)
Solutions Developer - Sort of a jack-of-all-trades programmer.
Delivery Expert - You give me a tip, or I feed your pizza to my cats.
Icon
Chicken. Not because I am a chicken, but because I command an army of chickens. Don't ask, it's a long story.

I have been playing Guild Wars since my then-girlfriend (now wife) told me about it after the first Beta Weekend Event back in October 2004. The feature that hooked me was that it was free, but the reason I kept playing is because it's fun. I don't play as much anymore, but I still hop on for most special events (I'm also part of Nick's voluntary slave labor force). My wife Jink is the leader and I am an officer of a small RP guild called the Wind Riders [WIND].

[edit] Technical stuffs

Yes, I know how to extract most textures and some text from Gw.dat. Click here to learn more.

The best tool I've found for running multiple instances of GW is here. Works flawlessly with the new -character command-line switch, unlike the tool I'd been using previously.

Game over man. The world will now explode due to critical mass of love and tolerance.

FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC.

[edit] Californication

"Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement." <-- That single lyric is probably the basis of my overall cynical state of mind. Also, awesome video. (It may look crappy now, but remember, this was made 11 years ago.)

[edit] anim.o.v.e

The band m.o.v.e (who continue to rank among my favorite artists) has been releasing an annual album of anime song covers and collaborations with other artists that are commonly involved with anime. Today they announced the third installment in this series, anim.o.v.e03, to be released in September, with a partial tracklist, so I went to check out the original versions of the songs. Then I did the same for the previous 2 albums (which I'd done before, just felt like doing again). Then I realized that I could create playlists on Grooveshark to compare the original to the cover, which I thought was spiffy. Then I figured I'd share them here since there are a few other anime fans around.

God Knows... Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu Aya Hirano 2006
Ai, Oboeteimasu ka? Macross: Do You Remember Love? Mari Iijima 1984

Funny story here (that I just learned today) - the song "Gravity" is from the show Lucky Star, where it was an insert song for a scene that was a parody of Initial D. Since m.o.v.e has performed all the intros and most of the outros for Initial D (Extra Stage doesn't count >.>), "Gravity" was written in imitation of their style, with a male rapper, female vocalist, and a techno-ish music style. It's even listed as being performed by "m.o.e.v" on the compilation album.

SOOOO... what we have here, is m.o.v.e covering a parody of themselves. And making it 9000 times more awesome.

(Yes, I am the same dr_ishmael who submitted the translated lyrics for both "Dogfight" and "Hikari e.")

There are *10* covers on this album, including a re-recording of their own "Dogfight," with only 1 original song — a drastic change from the previous two volumes. "Days" and "Hikari e" are the first songs they've covered that were originally sung by male vocalists.
